چکیده

It has been reported (Wang & Greenbaum, 1960) that there is an increase in both the total amount and the concentration of the acid-soluble ribonucleotides of the rat mammary gland over the period from pregnancy to late lactation and it was thought that these changes probably reflected the increase of metabolic activity associated with the onset of lactation. Over the same period the RNA of the gland also increases, particularly in the microsome fraction (Slater & Planterose, 1958). It was suggested that this increase was related to the greater rate of protein synthesis consequent on the greater rate of milk production. However, there are, as yet, no data available on the turnover rates of the RNA and acid-soluble ribonucleotides of the gland. The data presented here indicate that, over the period studied, there is an increased synthesis of the acid-soluble purine and uracil nucleotides, and also an initial increase in the total incorporation of the two precursors used into RNA at parturition, but later there follows a decrease as lactation advances.

O-16: Metabolism of Exogenous Fatty Acids, Fatty Acid-Mediated Cholesterol Efflux, PKA and PKC Pathways in Boar Sperm Acrosome Reaction

Background: For understanding the roles of fatty acids on the induction of acrosome reaction which occurs under association of cholesterol efflux and PKA or PKC pathways in boar spermatozoa, metabolic fate of alone and combined radiolabeled 14C-oleic acid and 3H-linoleic acid incorporated in the sperm was compared, and behavior of cholesterol and effects of PKA and PKC inhibitors upon fatty aci...

The incorporation of glycine-2-C14 into acid soluble nucleotide purines.

Acid-soluble nucleotides have recently been strongly implicated as precursors of polynucleo tides. Several workers using glycine-2-C'4 (7, 16) and adenine-C'4 (2, 10, 19, 21) have reported the rapid turnover of acid-soluble adenine with respect to nucleic acid adenine in a variety of biological systems. In experiments carried out for extended time periods after the administration of orotic acid...

[Methyl-14C]-choline incorporation into nude mice bearing tumor xenografts-correlation with [methyl-3H]-thymidine: A pilot study

Background: Many in vitro studies suggested that choline incorporation into many types of tumors is related to cell proliferation. Whether in vivo choline incorporation is related also to cell proliferation or not was my question. Therefore, the aim of this pilot study was to investigate the relationship of in vivo [methyl- 14C]-choline incorporation and in vivo [methyl-3H]- thymidine incorpora...
